The Opportunity

SzakMAfest is an annual career exploration festival in Nyíregyháza that introduces students and families to vocational education, skilled trades, and future career opportunities through interactive experiences. Organized through a partnership between the city, educational institutions, government agencies, and industry leaders, the festival encourages young people to discover new possibilities by learning through participation.

Partnering with LEGO Hungary and Tekerd Studio, the opportunity was to create an engaging art experience that reflected the same values celebrated throughout the festival: creativity, teamwork, craftsmanship, and the belief that every individual’s contribution matters.

The approach

Inspired by the collaborative spirit of SzakMAfest, LEGO Pit Stop was built around a simple idea: the same artwork can be created in different ways.

The design became two simultaneous community experiences- a large-scale interactive painting and a LEGO mosaic built from more than 35,000 bricks. Whether adding paint or placing bricks, over 700 students and festival guests discovered how individual contributions come together to create something greater than the sum of their parts.

the outcome

The interactive painting and LEGO mosaic became one of the festival’s most engaging attractions, celebrating creativity through both art and construction. By inviting hundreds of participants to build the same design in different ways, LEGO Pit Stop reinforced the festival’s mission to inspire teamwork, craftsmanship, and future opportunity through hands-on creative learning.
